Sound familiar?

You scrub. It comes back. And the shop sells you another bottle.

1

The white crust round your taps and in your kettleAnother £3 or £4 limescale spray every couple of weeks, and it's back by Friday. Meanwhile the scale makes your kettle, shower and washing machine work harder and wear out sooner.

2

Black mould on the window seals, every single winterA dehumidifier at £150 to £250 humming all night, a coat or a mattress thrown out because it smells, and the spray only bleaches the spots for a fortnight before they're back.

3

The oven you've given up onA professional oven clean costs £60 to £100, every time. The fume spray makes the whole house stink and still leaves the brown in the corners.

4

Towels and bedding that smell the second they're wetSo you buy new ones. They were never worn out. They were full of old detergent and conditioner, and it's an easy fix.

5

The cloudy shower screen and the ring in the looBottle after bottle, a sore arm, and a bathroom that still looks tired the day after you clean it.

6

The deposit you're about to loseA deposit can be up to five weeks' rent, often £1,000 or more. Cleaning is the most common reason landlords keep part of it back. A professional end-of-tenancy clean costs £250 to £400 on top.

Gwen wrapping a vinegar cloth round a crusted tap
Vinegar cloth round the tap, cling film over. Thirty minutes, and the crust wipes away.

It was never your fault. You were fighting limescale with soap, and mould with bleach. Nobody showed you the right weapon.

Half of what you buy in the cleaning aisle is soap, water and perfume in a clever bottle. Soap can't dissolve a mineral crust and it can't stop mould coming back. So you buy another bottle, and another. They sell you the managing of the problem, not the fix.

My Mam fixed it with eight things from the pantry. I'll show you exactly how.

Why tonight, not in the spring

Black mould season starts now.

From October to March the heating goes on, the windows stay shut, the washing dries inside, and every British window runs with water each morning. That water sits in the seals, the silicone and the corners of the ceiling, and that is exactly when mould takes hold.

Every week it's left, it roots deeper into the silicone and the paint, and the deeper it goes, the more likely the only fix is cutting it out and starting again. Start this week, before the first frost, and it never gets a foothold. Wait until March, and you'll be scrubbing what the winter left behind.

Ten minutes every morning, the right mix once a week, and your house goes through the whole winter dry. Chapter 3 shows you exactly how.

"But your videos are free, Gwen."

A video shows you one trick. The book gives you the whole house.

In a video I can show you one job. You can't stand in the bathroom with wet gloves holding a video, and you can't remember twelve mixes and their amounts from a dozen different videos.

Thirty seconds with the squeegee after every shower. That one habit stops the cloudy film.

The book is every job in the right order, with the exact amounts, the waiting times, the safety warnings and what to do if it didn't work the first time. That's the difference between watching and doing.

Who I am

I'm Gwen. Nain to my grandchildren.

I was born in 1951 in a miners' terrace in Treorchy, at the top of the Rhondda. The coal dust came in every single morning. My Mam, Megan, cleaned the pit manager's house, the doctor's house and the chapel for thirty years, then came home and did ours, with a bucket, old rags and whatever was in the pantry.

Before she died she made me promise to write it all down, because she could see it going. My own grandchildren didn't know how to descale a kettle. So I wrote it. I don't sell sprays, gadgets or cleaning services. Just the knowing, written down.

Questions, answered honestly

Before you decide

Is a paper book coming in the post?

No. It's a digital book, a PDF. Nothing ships. A few seconds after you pay it opens on your phone, tablet or computer, and the link stays in your email. If you'd like paper, you can print it at home, and the recipe card and poster are made for exactly that.

I'm not good with computers.

You don't need to be. You press one button and the book opens like a photo does. No app, no account, no password.

Will this work in my house? I rent.

Yes. Nearly everything in the book is cleaning you can do in any home, rented or owned. There's a whole plan for getting your deposit back, and a page on what to do when the damp is the building's fault, not yours.

Do I need special products?

The opposite. Eight cheap things from any British supermarket or chemist do nearly all of it. The point is that you stop buying the bottles.

Is it just tips I could find free online?

Online you get a hundred voices and half of them are selling you something. This is one method, in the right order, with exact amounts, safety warnings, and the honest truth about what each mix won't do.

Is it a subscription?

No. One payment, one time. Nothing more is ever charged.

What if it's not for me?

Ask for a refund within 7 days and you get your money back. No reasons needed.

Stop paying for bottles that only manage the problem.

A clean home was never bought in a shop, cariad. It's a knowing. Now it can be yours, for less than one trolley of sprays.

P.S. Do just one thing from the book tonight. Put the kettle on with a spoon of citric acid in it, and watch the white crust lift off the bottom while you have your tea. Then decide if you want the rest of the house.

No thanks, I'll keep buying another bottle every week.
